Recorded Live And Mixed By dj dAz (Umoja Soundsystem) Using 90% Original Press Vinyl. This Mix Holds A Special Place For Me As It Is Named After The Club BRASS, I Used To DJ At In The Late Eighties, Early Nineties. I Was Invited To Spin A Weekly Early Set At BRASS (L.A.’s First Acid Jazz Club) By The Clubs Creators; DJ Marques Wyatt, EMC=O, And Paul Stewart… Every Sunday Night For About 3 Years, BRASS Became At That Time, The Place To See And Be Seen In The Los Angeles Music Scene… As I Would Spin My Early Set Of Jazz, Soul, Rare Grooves, And Native Tongue-esque Hip Hop I Would See In The Crowd, The Likes Of Mike Tyson, Queen Latifah, Tony, Toni, Tone, Fishbone, MC Jamalski, And Various Other Movers And Shakers Getting Down To The Sounds Of dj dAz, Marques, EMC=O, and Paul Stewart a.k.a. DJ P.

During That Time The BRASS Crew Would Continue To Make Moves By Booking, Promoting, And Spinning Shows For Sade, Jamiroquai, The Roots, Digable Planets, Guru’s Jazzmatazz, Roy Ayers, And Many Others. BRASS (As A Crew) Were Directly Responsible For the Signing, Marketing, And Development Of The Brand New Heavies, The Pharcyde, And Masta Ace, Inc To Delicious Vinyl Records, Helping To See These Artists Careers Blossom Into Fruition….

DJ J-Rocc Of The Beat Junkies/Stones Throw Records Asked Me A Few Years Back If I Would Be Interested In Doing a Brass Event With Him Involved… Sorry J, I Slept On That One. Holla Back, And Lets Get Sump’n Goin’.

The Sounds You Are Hearing Now Are A Reflection Of What I Used To Spin During Those Days… I Would Mos’ Def’ Like To Shout Out Marques Wyatt, EMC=O, Paul Stewart, Delicious Vinyl Records, Nate Scott, Lano Brazil, Cid Hernandez of the soulpeople, the Cahuenga Posse (you know who you are)… the Village Idiots, Giant Step NYC, and everyone else who was there… Good Times, Seen!

And Oh Yeah… When We Would Dig For Records Back Then, We’d Cover The Labels Up So No Biters Could Catch A Glimpse Of What We Were Playing… So For This Pod-Cast I Will Not Be Posting A Play List… But Holla At’cha Boy And Leave A Comment To Let A Brother Know Y’all Are Listening, And I Might Be So Gracious As To Send You The Track List….
